Extract the XML from a Factur-X invoice
Updated 21 August 2026
The XML in a Factur-X invoice is not a separate file: it is embedded inside the PDF, as an attachment, named factur-x.xml. The container is a PDF/A-3, an archival PDF that accepts attachments. That is why an ordinary PDF reader does not show it to you.
To read it, open the invoice in Pruvue: the XML appears beside the PDF, with the profile and the verdict. That reading is free, needs no account, and the file does not leave your device.
If you need the XML file itself, to send to a tool or to file it, it is one of the report's exports, alongside the JSON report, the printable HTML report and the key fields as CSV. Reading is free; the report is paid.
One word on what you will find in it: this is the data your accounting will actually use, and it can differ from what the PDF displays. The guide on checking a received invoice explains why that gap always deserves a question to the issuer.
