Read a ZUGFeRD invoice

Updated 21 August 2026

Factur-X is a Franco-German standard. An invoice received from a German supplier is the same kind of file: a PDF with structured data inside it.

The difference is the name of the attachment. On the French side it is called factur-x.xml; on files of German origin it is called zugferd-invoice.xml. A tool that looks only for the first name concludes there is no data. Pruvue reads both.

The rest is identical: the declared profile, the mandatory fields, and the EN 16931 business rules, the European semantic standard both attach to.

Open the file and read the verdict. If the attachment really is missing, you will see that too: what you have then is an ordinary PDF, not a structured electronic invoice.
